Simon Peter Sserunkuma (born 19 September 1991) is a Ugandan professional footballer who plays for SC Villa in the Ugandan Super League. He became the most expensive player in Ugandan history when SC Villa paid Victors FC 16 million shillings ($10,000) in May 2009.[1] Simon is a forward but equally effective as a winger that can play on the left or right and is well known for his ability to beat opponents will skill and pace before scoring himself or creating chances for team mates.

Personal life

Simon grew up playing street football with Ibrahim Juma and Mike Mutyaba who both became national team colleagues of his during their CECAFA U-17 Championship triumph in 2009. He first made history as a 13 year old playing for the Super Cubs Youth Academy when Mutundwe Youth Academy bought him and he became the only youth player ever to be sold from one academy to another due to his exceptional ability.

Club career

Victors FC

Simon signed for Victors FC when he turned 16 and his skills earned him a place in the first team starit away. He made his debut during the 2007 season in a game against Kampala City Council FC. He spent 2 successful seasons there and his performances constantly attracted attention from other clubs. During his time with Victors FC he won the 2008 Super League most valuable player and Uganda Cup in the same year.

SC Villa

His impressive displays in the Ugandan Super League persuaded SC Villa to pay a record transfer fee of UShs16m ($10,000) for the signature of the young started to boost their title ambitions.

International career

Simon has represented Uganda at U17, U20 and full National level since he first came on the scene in 2007. His full national team debut for Bobby Williamson came in a 2-1 win over Malawi in 2009. In March 2010, his recovery from a hamstring injury to be available for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Burundi was crucial to the success of the National Team.[2]
